What the Fork: Subway
Happy what the fork Friday! I know so many people who say they don't eat fast food, but eat Subway because it's considered a "healthier alternative." I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news but Subway is just as bad as McDonald's. Honestly, its worst in my opinion, because at least at McDonald's people know they're not eating real food. Subway has done a great marketing job, lying to the public about what they really serve and there's nothing fresh about it.
The oven roasted chicken breast sandwich is on their fresh fit choices.
There are 20 ingredients in JUST the chicken patty alone:
Chicken breast with rib meat, water, seasoning (corn syrup solids, vinegar powder [maltodextrin, modified corn starch and tapioca
starch, dried vinegar], brown sugar, salt, dextrose, garlic powder, onion powder, chicken type flavor [hydrolyzed corn gluten, autolyzed yeast extract, thiamine hydrochloride, disodium inosinate and disodium guanylate]), sodium phosphates.
The chicken isn't organic which means it is full of antibiotics (posing a serious health threat with rising antibiotic resistant bacteria), hormones (endocrine disrupting) & is fed GMO feed that has been sprayed to hell and back with carcinogenic pesticides. This is chicken we are talking about here. The ingredients should say: chicken, and salt (and maybe a few seasonings). Yet there's CORN SYRUP and MSG in it (in the form of autolyzed yeast extract).
Their bread up until this last year contained corn syrup and azodicarbonamide, the famous "yoga mat" chemical.
It still however contains MSG, and GMO wheat & soybean oil - both of which have been sprayed heavily with the carcinogenic herbicide Glyphosate (amongst many other herbicides and pesticides).
In order for the food to "stay fresh" and travel long distances to stores across the country they have to add tons of preservatives and additives. They also use conventional produce that has been sprayed with tons of toxic pesticides and herbicides. This is increasingly becoming a problem as scientists are starting to find the connection between pesticides and cancer.
Stay Healthy and eat fresh my friends! Just not Subway fresh. Real Food fresh is where it's at!
